The Sacramento Valley Women’s Soccer League (SVWSL) will honor one referee with the 2008 Referee of the Year Award. The SVWSL, helps foster the development of referees for the future of soccer in Sacramento and Northern California. The 2008 Referee of the Year Award recipient will be honor for his/her dedication to the game, their outstanding personal accomplishments, serving as role models to other referees and players, and for their excellence as recognized by their adult referee peers and mentors.
The recipient of the 2008 Referee of the Year Award is selected by the SVWSL Board of Directors based on work ethic, knowledge of the rules of the game and influence as positive role models.
The criteria needing to be met for consideration of the Referee of the Year Award is…
- the ability to work well with others
- the ability to improve performance as a referee
- the ability to mentor others
- the ability to interact and communicate well with coaches and competitors
- the ability to effectively apply competition rules in difficult situations
- smooth operation of the game
- and the ability to contribute to creating a positive tournament experience for spectators, competitors, coaches and volunteers

| The purposes of this League shall be to develop, promote, and administer the game of soccer as a recreational sport for women 18 and over, regardless of ability, within the territory of the League.
The general purposes and power are to have and exercise all rights and powers conferred on a nonprofit organization under the laws of California, including the power to contract, rent, buy, or sell personal or real property provided, however, that this League shall not, except to an unsubstantial degree, engage in any activities or exercise any powers that are not in furtherance of the primary purposes of this League.
No substantial part of the activities of this League shall consist of carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the League shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign (including the publishing or distribution of statements) on behalf of any candidate for public office.

The SALLY Games is a recreational one-day women's soccer tournament, for ages 18 and over. We have open, over 30 and over 40 divisions, depending on the number of teams that apply. SALLY Games applications will be available by July 2008.
The mission of the SALLY Games is to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and to educate the women’s soccer community about leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other cancers. We hope to achieve this mission by hosting a great soccer tournament and donating the registration fees, snack bar profits and raffle proceeds to The Leukemia Society to to advance research and provide patient services. We hope the tournament provides all participants and spectators with a day of awareness, camaraderie, and competitive soccer.
